“This is the best squad we have ever had under Jurgen Klopp” | LIVERPOOL 4-1 CHELSEA | The Rationale

Happy Thursday Reds.

Quite the reactionary title. I think not. This squad has so much strength in depth. The superhumans were in action again last night as they dispatched a sorry Chelsea at Anfield. 4-1 was the score but on another night it would have been 6. That is 4 goals we have scored in each of our last 3 Premier League games. Don’t forget 5 at the weekend. It is quite something to be supporting the reds at the moment and I would encourage every single red to cherish every moment. The only fitting way to describe it is with the ‘Imagine Being Us’ banner. I am having the time of my life this season. Every football fan can only dream of winning four trophies in one season. For us, it could very much become our reality. Let’s talk the action from last night.

The reds were at the races from the first whistle. Darwin Nunez absolutely electric from the start. Forcing Petrovic into a smart stop early on. Quite the pass from Ibrahima Konate. We got our just rewards shortly after. Diogo Jota is just inevitable. Simply inevitable. Conor Bradley with his first assist on the night. A night which would be memorable for the 20 year-old. Bradley then doubled our lead with a fantastic strike into the bottom corner to double our lead. His energy from right-back is staggering. The comparisons to Trent Alexander-Arnold are justified. He seems to have everything. I am in the camp that he has to play at right-back moving forwards and then move Alexander-Arnold into midfield.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz both got on the scoresheet to confirm the win and reinstate our 5 point lead at the summit of the Premier League. Another sublime pass from Bradley for Szoboszlai to score his header. That was 2 assists, 1 goal and a player of the match award for the Northern Irish international on his Anfield Premier League debut. Quite the night to remember. Super proud of him and this is only the start. What a talent.

It was not about individuals last night, although Bradley took the plaudits. It was a complete team performance again. Every player pulling in the same direction whether from the start or from the bench. Every player believing in the team and honestly the sky is the limit in terms of what this group can achieve this season. We have been without Mohamed Salah since the 2nd of January and you would not have realised. That’s why I say that this is the best squad we have ever had under Jurgen Klopp. The glorious days with the famous front three were unbelievable but we never had the depth to the squad that we do now. Jota, Diaz, Nunez, Gakpo and obviously Salah. They are all good enough to start. At fullback it is quite remarkable. We were able to bench the best fullbacks the league has seen over the last 5 years as we have Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley who are more than good enough to start. Every position we have so much depth and we are going to need everyone if we are to achieve something special.

I want to finish on some milestones last night. Darwin Nunez making his 50th Premier League appearance. Many more to come. Trent Alexander-Arnold making his 300th Liverpool appearance at only 25 years old. Generational. But most importantly, Jurgen Klopp earning his 200th League win last night. Only the 4th manager in our rich history to achieve that, after Tom Watson, Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley. Quite the company Klopp is in. The 2nd fastest in Premier League history to reach it too. Nothing more can be said complimenting Jurgen Klopp. Just want him to know that we are all so glad that he is a red.

Next up, a trip to the capital to face Arsenal on Sunday. Another massive game. But we have every right to be confident, these reds are relentless. I hope you have enjoyed the rationale. Have your opinion heard in the comments on this post. Thanks everyone. Up the Mighty Reds.
